En la Región de las Américas, el 16,6% de las personas mayores de 15 años son consumidores de tabaco. Dada la prevalencia y carga global y regional del consumo de tabaco, particularmente como factor de riesgo de enfermedades no transmisibles, es importante que se amplíe y consolide el papel de los farmacéuticos en la prevención y la deshabituación del consumo de tabaco. La FIP y su Foro Farmacéutico de las Américas le invitan a participar en este evento para conocer la carga del consumo de tabaco en la región de las Américas y el papel que pueden desempeñar los farmacéuticos en la deshabituación tabáquica. There are 1.25 billion adult tobacco users around the world, and 60% of them want to quit, but only around 35% of the world’s population have access to comprehensive tobacco cessation services. Given the global prevalence and burden of tobacco use, particularly as a risk factor for noncommunicable diseases, it is important that the services provided by pharmacists in this area are expanded and consolidated. At this event, FIP will launch a global intelligence report on pharmacist-led tobacco cessation services. A joint WHO-FIP statement and call to action on the role of pharmacists in tobacco cessation and examples of successful pharmacist interventions/services in tobacco cessation will also be presented, along with findings from a survey and a systematic literature review.
