In 2025, FIP will run a global campaign to mark World Patient Safety Day (17 September) and the 10th anniversary of Medication Safety Week (2–9 November). The campaign will feature two digital events, a CPD Bite, and social media activities, focusing on paediatric and newborn safety, substandard and falsified medical products, and supporting the worldwide #MedSafetyWeek campaign led by WHO’s Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring. Through this campaign, FIP will bring together healthcare professionals, patients, carers, and global partners to drive awareness and action towards safer healthcare systems.

Pharmacists Leading the Way in Medication Safety
Pharmacists play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines. With their specialised expertise in pharmacotherapy, they are well-positioned to identify and resolve medication-related problems, support medication adherence, and optimise treatment outcomes for both prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Enhancing medication safety requires a collaborative and multifaceted approach—improving communication, strengthening medication reconciliation, and fostering teamwork across healthcare professionals. As the final point of contact before a medicine reaches the patient, pharmacists are uniquely placed to lead efforts, and thus medication safety starts with the pharmacist’s contribution.
