Deprescribing in the Elderly
This session features two expert speakers — Ammar Bin Kumar from Malaysia and Dr Margaret Lin from Taiwan — who will explore the vital role of deprescribing in older adults to reduce harm from polypharmacy and promote safer aging. Ammar will outline a step-by-step deprescribing process for pharmacists, share evidence of clinical benefits, discuss barriers, and present real-world experiences from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s largest geriatric referral centre. Margaret will present a clinical case and research findings from Taiwan examining predictors of medication regimen complexity. Together, they will highlight practical strategies and regional insights to advance safe, effective, and sustainable medication use among aging populations.
